INTRODUCTION


No one learns or studies in the same way. There are some people who learn best when they listen to some music or dialogues; others learn by watching films, and others need to actout something in order to learn. There are different ways to learn and, when these differences involve the sensory channels; they are called “sensory learning styles”.
The aim of this paper is to investigate the sensory learning styles used by “Cursos Livres” English students in an attempt to use this information to enhance learning.
Several observations inan English group from “Cursos Livres- UFPa” were conducted. A test about sensory preferences (visual, auditive, and kinesthetic) was given to students in order to identify and quantify the data.
This paper found its inspiring force in some questions that always disturbed many teachers: “Why do some students say that a class is boring while (in the same classroom) another saythe opposite?” The fact is that different students study in different ways. So, from many observations, investigations, research and readings about learning styles that this study came into light.
It is believed that students are able to be autonomous in their learning process, so it is necessary to respect the different learning styles and use them to teach students better.LEARNING STYLES



Before beginning the study about learning styles, it is necessary to identify three associate concepts which are complementary to the focus of this paper. These concepts are: process, style and strategies.


2.1. THE CONCEPTS OF PROCESS, STYLE AND STRATEGIES

According do Brown (1994), “process” is the most general concept of thethree. It is said that everyone is involved in certain universal processes. As we need the food to survive (process of nurturing our cells), we are also involved in a process to learn something. The learning itself is a process.
