This study deals with Community Therapy (CT), with the objective of describing medicamentation/medicalization as a strategy of treatment in community healthcare. The methodological trajectory based itself on qualitative approach, within a descriptive and analytical perspective. Semi-structured interviews, focal group and systematic observation of six strategies, as data collection techniques were utilized. Twenty-six people, distributed into two groups of representation, were the subjects of the study: therapeutic communities – 05; users – 21. As to medicalization/medicamentation, the study demonstrated that many users were able to reduce and even stop using controlled medication with support of CT and other therapeutical services as massage therapy, reiki and self-esteem groups, in addition to treatment at the Psychosocial Treatment Center (CAPS). The main characteristic of CT is a feeling of being welcomed and other light technologies, as bonding, responsibilization and autonomy, characterizing itself as a service of promoting humanization in medicamentation/medicalization and in mental health.
Keywords: therapy; community therapy; mental health; medicalization; medicamentation.
