RESUMO: O presente artigo discute a Síndrome de Burnout, um distúrbio psíquico de caráter depressivo, precedido de esgotamento físico e mental cuja causa está ligada à vida profissional, que atinge com maior incidência os profissionais da área de saúde e educação em função de estarem diretamente ligados as relações humanas que exigem do trabalhador a afetividade. Sua relevância está em mostrar a comunidade acadêmica e aos interessados pelo tema, a importância da prevenção de tal síndrome. Objetivos: Conceituar a “Síndrome de Burnout”, suas causas, tratamento e consequências na vida dos trabalhadores da área da saúde, em especial a categoria de enfermagem, visando alertá-los sobre a importância de estarem atentos aos sintomas e da busca de tratamento. O estudo foi realizado como base na análise e interpretação artigos, teses e dissertações produzidas entre 2000 a 2011.

Abstract: This article discusses the burnout syndrome, a mental disorder depressive character,preceded by physical and mental exhaustion the cause of which is connected to professional life, which reaches a higher incidence professionals in the area of health and education due to being directly connected to human relations that require worker'saffection. Its relevance is to show the academic community and those interested in the subject, the importance of prevention of this syndrome. Objectives: Conceptualize the "burnout syndrome", its causes, treatment and consequences in the lives of healthcareworkers, especially nursing category in order to alert them about the importance of being attentive to the symptoms and seeking treatment. The study was based on the analysisand interpretation of articles, theses and dissertations produced between 2000 to 2011.
