O Pico de Hubbert e o Futuro da Produção Mundial de
Petróleo

RESUMO
O artigo visa divulgar o conceito de pico da produção mundial de petróleo (Pico de Hubbert), assim como a metodologia utilizada para estimar sua data de ocorrência.
Apresentam-se ainda dois cenários para a produção futura de petróleo: o de um grupo de especialistas seguidores da metodologia de Hubbert e o adotado por órgãos governamentais norte-americanos.

O pico da produção de petróleo deverá ocorrer – se a hipótese apresentada no artigo estiver correta – em poucos anos, tornando crucial a questão da sua substituição como fonte de energia. As perspectivas das diversas fontes alternativas com potencial para substituir parcialmente o petróleo são, portanto, examinadas sumariamente.
O trabalho faz igualmente comentários a respeito da situação do
Brasil em face de uma possível crise energética, concluindo que a posição do país é relativamente favorável.

This article aims to inform about the concept of the world oil production’s peak (Hubbert’s
Peak), as well as the methodology used to estimate when it will happen.
Two scenarios are also developed regarding the oil production in the future: one conceived by a group of experts who follow Hubbert’s methodology, and another adopted by
North American Government institutions. ABSTRACT

The peak of oil production should occur – if the hypothesis presented in this article are correct – in a few years, making it crucial the substitution of oil as a source of energy. The prospects of various alternative sources as potential oil substitute are, therefore, briefly examined. This paper also makes comments about Brazil’s situation concerning a probable energy crisis, concluding that the country’s position is relatively favorable.
