RESUMO
O presente estudo procurou fazer um pequeno levantamento sobre a prática do psicólogo diante do tratamento de pacientes com autismo e seus familiares. Como fonte principal para o desenvolvimento desta pesquisa foi á revisão bibliográfica de livros e artigos de autores que abordam a temática referente ao autismo e família, e a atuação do psicólogo nesse meio. Foram feitas duas perguntas à dois psicólogos com o objetivo de entender como se dá o tratamento com as crianças autistas. Ainda com o objetivo de ampliar a pesquisa foi feita também entrevistas com duas mães que possuem filhos autistas. As entrevistas foram gravadas em áudio, posteriormente transcritas e submetidas à análise do conteúdo temática. Os resultados indicaram que há sobrecarga emocional desencadeada pelo reconhecimento e aceitação de deficiência mental em um membro da família, e que o acompanhamento terapêutico é de extrema importância para melhora da qualidade de vida quanto da criança quanto da família.

ABSTRACT
The present study sought to do a small survey on the practice of the psychologist on the treatment of patients with autism and their families. As the main source for the development of this research was to be literature review books and authors that address themes related to autism and family, and the psychologist that environment. Were asked two questions to two psychologists in order to understand how to give the treatment with autistic children. Even with the aim of expanding the research was also done interviews with two mothers who have children with autism. The interviews were audio-recorded, transcribed and subjected to thematic content analysis. The results indicated that there is emotional overload triggered by the recognition and acceptance
