RESUMO
O autor pesquisa os vários aspectos controversos, de interesse ortodôntico, relacionados ao terceiros molares. Entre estes aspectos encontram-se a questão destes dentes exercerem ou não influência em apinhamentos na região anterior da arcada dentária; a verificação do espaço destinado à erupção dos terceiros molares através de análises radiográficas para predizer a probabilidade de impactação destes dentes e assim finalmente avaliar as vantagens ou desvantagens da indicação da extração precoce dos terceiros molares.
Constata-se que os terceiros molares não exercem uma influência significativa na ocorrência de apinhamentos na região anterior da arcada dentária e que existem outros fatores mais importantes relacionados a este fato. Em relação às extrações precoces de terceiros molares, a manutenção destes dentes na arcada parece ser uma medida mais prudente e propicia vantagens consideráveis.
SUMMAMRY
STUDY OF THE INFLUENCE OF THE THIRD MOLARS IN THE ORTHODONTICS DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT
The author researches the several controversial aspects, of ortodôntic interest, related to the third molars. Among these aspects they meet the subject of these teeth they exercise or non influence in anterior dental crowding, the verification of the space destined to the eruption of the third molars through radiographic analyses to predict the impactation probability of these teeth and like this finally to evaluate the advantages or disadvantages of the indication of the precocious extraction of the third molars.
It is verified that the third molars don't exercise a significant influence in the anterior dental crowding occurrence and that other more important causes related to this fact exist. In relation to the precocious extractions of third molars, the maintenance of these teeth in the arcade seems to be a measured more careful and it propitiates considerable advantages.
