RESUMO
Esse trabalho teve como objetivo apresentar a história da profissão do serviço social e o que é essa profissão.

Embasado na teoria de que é uma profissão de caráter sócio – político, critico e interventivo. Inserido nas mais diversas áreas (saúde, previdência, educação, habitação, lazer, assistência social, justiça e etc.) com papel de planejar, gerenciar, administrar, executar e assessorar políticas, programas e serviços sociais.

ABSTRACT
This study aimed to present the history of the profession of social work is and what this profession. Grounded in the theory that it is a profession of socio - political, critical and interventionist. Inserted in many areas (health, welfare, education, housing, leisure, welfare, justice, etc.). Role in planning, managing, administering, implementing and advising policies, programs and social services.
