PONTOS DE CONTATO ENTRE EDGAR ALLAN POE E ALPHONSUS DE GUIMARAENS QUANTO À MORTE E AO AMOR
RESUMO: O objetivo principal deste trabalho é fornecer uma breve visão de algumas analogias e contrastes possíveis entre Edgar Allan Poe e Alphonsus de Guimaraens quanto aos princípios estéticos predominantes que esses dois poetas do século XIX decidiram aplicar a sua produção poética, mormente em relação aos temas do amor (Eros) e da morte (Tânatos). Procuraremos demonstrar que esses matizes temáticos são trabalhados sob a angulação do gótico-melancólico a fim de se atingir o sublime. Discutiremos brevemente os modi operandi que Poe e de Alphonsus empregam nessa triangulação entre traços góticos, melancolia e o sublime, também focalizando o papel da figura da amada nesse processo estético.

ABSTRACT: The main intent of this paper is to provide a bird’s eye view of possible analogies and contrasts between Edgar Allan Poe and Alphonsus de Guimaraens vis-à-vis the predominant aesthetic principles these two nineteenth century poets decided to impress upon their poetic work, chiefly as far as the themes of love (Eros) and death (Thanatos) are concerned. We shall attempt to describe that these poetic overtones underlying their work are addressed, more often than not, from a gothic-melancholic angle in order to consciously try to reach the sublime. We shall theorize briefly on how the gothic motifs, melancholy and the sublime can be intertwined poetically. We shall discuss the modi operandi that Poe and Alphonsus employ in this tripartite relationship of gothic motifs, melancholy and the sublime, also focusing on the role that the beloved female figure plays in such aesthetic process.
