The social development activities in the face of rampant capitalist consumerism and the high for the environment generates an infinite amount of solid waste. Given this issue arises activity of recyclable material collectors, which are an alternative way of earning a living would contribute to environmental conditions. The focus of research was directed the activities of scavengers associated with ARENSA located in the city of Campina Grande - PB. The objective was to assess the social and environmental impacts generated by this labor activity. The methodology was based on data collection with visits to the shed, using questionnaires, photographs and interviews with cooperative members. The externalities were incorporated into a selected matrix interaction that crosses these data with environmental factors. The data were treated by the method of qualitatively matrix interactions and Method "GUT." As a result there was the identification of multiple social and environmental impacts surrounding the activity, from the initial addition to the collection until the time of storage of solid waste in the shed. Social impacts were also incurred a large space when searching, as the non-recognition by the community and the Government on the activities of environmental agents that carry out effective recycling cooperatives and/or associations. We conclude, then, by numerous social and environmental impacts and the urgent need for improvement of the whole association
