Brus was a member of the short-lived Viennse Actionist movement which turned the focus of art onto the body as a reevaluation of both art and life in the modern era. The work sheds common perceptions of beauty in exchange for an unfiltered and at times grotesque view of modern life politically, sexually, morally, etc…
Austrian designer Carol Christian Poell has cited the Viennese Actionists as inspiration for his own work.

O artista francês (n. Paris, 1944) criou, no verão de 2010, na Serpentine Gallery, em Londres, um arquivo de batimentos do coração que foi recolhendo através de vários voluntários. Estes batimentos recolhidos, em Londres, juntaram-se a outros. O objectivo foi conceber uma instalação permanente, a partir dessas gravações, na remota ilha japonesa Teshima - uma das ilhas onde decorre o Setouchi International Art Festival.
A exposição divide-se em três partes. Uma instalação. Um espaço (Listening room) onde os vistantes podem escolher e ouvir as gravações já existentes e uma sala de gravação (Recording Room) onde os visitantes podem gravar os seus batimentos cardíacos. Assim como as impressões digitais, os batimentos cardíacos são únicos para cada indivíduo.
