Through-out the industrial revolution many things where invented, such as the steam engine, Spinning Jenny’s and so on. A lot of things have changed since then, In those times, if a machine maybe had something stuck in it or a faulty piece, Factory owners and Engineers would send in children as they were small and very agile, but they could easily get hurt because workers would leave machines on, so as soon as the children fixed the machines their arms could get stuck on one of the cogs and grind, leaving them in immense pain, with no compensation in any way or form. Even the “Better” jobs where still very dangerous. Factories back then wouldn’t get inspected very regularly, so usually they would be covered in dirt and ash, which the children inhaled; this caused them to have problems with breathing, and maybe lead to lung cancer. Children would also work for 12 hours straight, with only very small lunch breaks, and very small pay. This is one of the biggest reasons that factory owners used children. Children demanded very little as they weren’t very good at jobs, and usually got fired sooner or later.

Factory owners used lies to trick the government into thinking that children where happy Doing what they did, not that the government in that time really cared. They would tell parliament that they paid so and so, while they really paid a very small amount of money for a very difficult job. Factories owner also bribed inspectors so that they would say the factories where good to go and had nothing wrong, when really they put children to suffer through pain and a mass amount of work. It was regularly reported that maybe a child had a missing arm, broken legs and serious injuries.

Children were also treated badly by other workers, in a photo it shows a child going into a machine while adults don’t even look at him or help, out of around 8 people only one woman actually pays attention to the child, even
