Charlie Chaplin was one of the greatest and loved silent movie stars. From “Easy Street” to “Modern Times” , he made many of the funniest and most popular films of his time.
He was born on April 16, 1889 in a London suburb. His mother, Lily Harley, was a comedy actress. His father, also an artist of music hall, left the family when Charles was still small. A serious problem of laryngitis ended the career of the young Lily Harley, forcing Charles Chaplin to work with art when he was only five years old. The theater, much frequented by soldiers, was not exactly a selective local, but was there that the little Chaplin was able to show for the first time his great talent for interpretation. His first years of life were spent in an orphanage, where Chaplin found all the elements he would use later in the scripts of the films he directed and performed. This first stage of his life had no humor or irony with which the filmmaker touched audiences in the hole world.Fortunately, Chaplin built his life with the only positive thing that he could have inherited from his family: a passion for theater . With eight years old Chaplin signed his first contract with a circus company and a little bit later first visited America with a theater company appearing as “Billy” in the play “Sherlock Holmes”. On his second tour, he met Mack Sennett and was signed to Keystone Studios to act in films. In 1914 Chaplin made his first one-reeler, “Making a Living”. That same year he made thirty-four more short films, including “Caught in a Cabaret”, “Caught in the Rain”, “The Face on the Bar-Room Floor”, and “His Trysting Place”. These early silent shorts allowed very little time for anything but physical comedy, and Chaplin was a master at it.
The big dictator - is from 1940, when the world faced the World War II (1939-1945), and the spread of Nazism, "ethnic cleansing". In the film, Chaplin plays two roles: a Jewish barber (Chaplin, the tramp) and the dictator Hynkel (reference to Hitler).
