O percurso histórico da ortografia da língua portuguesa

Resumo

Este artigo tem por objetivo apresentar o percurso histórico da ortografia portuguesa, a partir do século XVI até o início do século XX. A pesquisa está amparada por teorias da área da Lingüística com as considerações de estudiosos como Orlandi, Fávero e Molina. Constatou-se, por meio de estudos histórico-linguísticos, que as propostas de sistematização verificadas em cada período foram estimuladas, desde o início, por questões ideológicas reveladas pelo autor ou pelo grupo que está inserido, contaminado pelas idéias sociais e políticas da época. Verificou-se que fatores externos à língua podem influenciar nas modificações lingüísticas, em especial, nas alterações ortográficas. No Brasil, as questões que se referem à ortografia ocorreram de maneira peculiar, porque estavam relacionadas à busca pela identidade nacional e lingüística.

Abstract

This article aims to present the history of English spelling, from the sixteenth century until the beginning of the twentieth century. The research is supported by theories in the field of linguistics with the findings of scholars like Orlandi, Fávero and Molina. It was, by historical and linguistic studies, that the proposals of systematization found in each period were driven from the outset, by ideological issues revealed by the author or the group that is inserted, contaminated by social and political ideas of the time. It was found that external factors may influence the language in linguistic changes, especially changes in spelling. In Brazil, the issues that concern the spelling was so strange, because they were related to the search for national identity and language.
