RESILIENCE OF AUTISM CHILDREN’S FAMILY COREGIVERS

ABSTRAC
This study had the purpose to rate the resilience in Family caregivers of kids with Autism at a support association in the interior of Bahia. The resilience is related to the individual´s capacity to recover and proceed, even if experiencing adversity. This is about a descriptive study of a correlational character of a quantitative and transverse approach. It had the participation of 31 family caregivers of Autism kids. The instruments utilized were a socio demographic questionnaire, and the Wagnild and Young Resilience Scale (1993) translated and valid in Brazil. For this study it was used the descriptive and inferential statistic, and the applied tests were: T-Test and NOVA Test. According to the Kolmagotov – Sminorv the data had a normal distribution, with the correlation of Pearson and the comparison among the medias performed by the Turkey HSD Test. The data were made at the SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Science) software, version 20.0. From a total of 31 family caregivers 93% were female, 48,4% had the ages between 31 to 40 years , 45,2% have completed/ uncompleted the high school, 67% with 1 to 2 children, 35% didn´t receive any benefits, 64,5% take care for a full time. The average of resilience was 142, 77. For the male caregivers (144,50) the average was higher, from 21 to 30 years old (144,86), with the completed/uncompleted high school (150,00), over 5 children (148,00), that engaged in paid employment (148,33), with income over 2 minimum salaries (154,00), exempted of benefits (148,54), and up to 12 hours of daily care. The results were statistically analyzed and indicate that the existent difficulties in taking care of a Autism child influences directly to the level of resilience of the caregivers.
