ABSTRACT
In response to an increasingly global and competitive environment, the productivity is being actively pursued by corporations, but is impossible to get high productivity levels if have too many wastes during building process. However, in many organizations, the ways to combat this problem are still inefficient. This paper proposes to discuss the importance of the management actions to reduce wastes. In a second time it presents the results of one exploratory research that was made in the building construction industry, in
Santa Maria, showing what things are being madding by this organizations to solve or reduce this problem. Was observed that the majority of measures has relation with the workmanship’s wastes (75%) and not with the materials’ wastes. Is important point out that this paper hasn’t the intention to emphasize the organization’s mistakes but suggest ways to reduce this wastes. With this intention, was made a comparison between the measures taking against wastes and the steps proposed by SERPELL.

1 INTRODUÇÃO
A indústria da Construção Civil é conhecida por suas varias peculiaridades, dentre estas destacam-se:
Os operários da Construção Civil são, em sua maioria, provenientes do meio rural e, portanto, não possuem formação técnica anterior (MELO, 1995);

Os métodos construtivos não acompanham o desenvolvimento tecnológico da área, principalmente, por haver, nos canteiros de obra, uma nítida e grande diferenciação entre o “saber fazer” e o “saber científico” (FARAH, 1992);
