Tecnologia e Emprego na Indústria Automobilística: evidências empíricas

RESUMO
O objetivo principal deste artigo é contribuir para elucidar a polêmica que envolve a questão dos efeitos do avanço tecnológico sobre o emprego.
Alguns teóricos defendem que as inovações tecnológicas, difundidas no processo produtivo, geram o chamado desemprego tecnológico (estrutural), enquanto outros defendem que essa difusão ajuda a manter certo nível de emprego, uma vez que garante maior competitividade às empresas. Assim, é feita neste trabalho uma análise empírica do nível de emprego na indústria automobilística nacional e mundial, baseada na técnica econométrica de análise de séries temporais, com vistas a verificar se o avanço tecnológico neste setor, materializado no uso da microeletrônica, causa redução no nível de emprego. Os resultados apontam tendência de redução estrutural estatisticamente significativa para o nível de emprego dos países desenvolvidos analisados, à exceção do Japão. Para o
Brasil esta tendência não se mostra estatisticamente significativa, embora seja comprovada perda relativa de emprego.
ABSTRACT
The main objective of this paper is to contribute to elucidate the polemic that involves the subject of the effects of the technological progress on the employment. Some theoretical ones defend that the technological innovations generate it called technological unemployment (structural). On the other hand, others defend that diffusion helps to maintain certain employment level, once it guarantees larger competitiveness to the companies. In this paper it is made an empiric analysis of the employment level in the national and world automobile industry. The methodology consists in the econometric analysis of temporary series, trying to verify the technological progress in this section causes reduction in the employment level.
