RESUMO
Este trabalho tem como objetivo apresentar uma visão a respeito da produção de energia limpa e renovável a partir de recursos geotérmicos como alternativa aos combustíveis fósseis e outras fontes poluentes e não renováveis. Está estruturado de forma metodológica. Indica os processos de exploração e produção de energia geotérmica, os tipos de usinas, as tecnologias empregadas, os pontos positivos e negativos de sua produção, os impactos ambientais que podem ser provocados quando a exploração de tais recursos ocorre de maneira indevida. Por fim, faz uma análise a respeito da viabilidade de se optar por este segmento frente a algumas barreiras que podem ser impostas pelas características geológicas de determinadas regiões e por fatores econômicos.

This paper aims to present an overview about the production of clean, renewable energy from geothermal sources as an alternative to fossil fuels and other polluting and non-renewable sources. Is structured methodology. Indicates the geothermal energy exploration and production process, types of plants, the technologies employed, the positive and negative aspects of its production, the environmental impacts that may be caused when the exploitation of these resources occurs improperly. Finally, it makes an analysis about the feasibility of opting for this segment against some barriers that may be imposed by the geological characteristics of certain regions and economic factors.
