One Sport and Its Differences Although indoor volleyball and beach volleyball are both the same sport, there are certain details in their rules that change or determine how players play the game. Some small differences in the dimension of the court, the system of play and scoring and even the differences in the ball are relevant. The indoor volleyball court is eighteen meters long and nine meters wide, while the beach volleyball court measures sixteen meters long and eight meters wide. The fact of having twelve indoor volleyball players, being six on each side of the net, allows the indoor court to be larger than the beach volleyball court where only two players, in each side of the net, are allowed. A central line and another line, designed three meters away from the center line, delimitate the attack area in indoor volleyball showing another rule that differentiates the indoor and beach volleyball. These lines increase the limitations in certain positions on the court for indoor volleyball players; while in beach volleyball the central line and the three meters line do not exist. Therefore, the beach volleyball players are less limited in their positions while playing the game. Another important detail between indoor and beach volleyball is the colors of the lines used to delimit the courts. For indoor volleyball lines are mandatory in white color; while in beach volleyball lines are always colorful and bright facilitating the vision of the players.
