Abstract  In the past few years, many improvements have been done to bring Quality of Service (QoS) support to the
Internet. These improvements defined a new Internet QoS framework, mainly composed by Differentiated Services
(DiffServ), Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) and
Constraint Based Routing technologies. Taking in account the current trend that Internet will become a multimedia convergent network, capable to support multimedia applications with QoS, the understanding of such framework is fundamental to the formation of today area professionals.
In this scenario, this paper describes our experience in teaching Internet QoS in a simulation laboratory. Details of experiments, obtained results and performed analysis are provided. We used OPNET Modeler simulation environment to simulate three scenarios: standard Internet, MPLS
Internet and DiffServ/MPLS Internet. Through simulations results, students can see the advantages and disadvantages of each scenario. The experiments are used in a graduate telecommunication engineering course.
Index Terms  QoS, Internet, MPLS, DiffServ, OPNET.
