Illusion (also called magic or sleight of hand) is the scenic art of entertaining an audience by creating illusions that baffle and amaze, often by giving the impression that something impossible has happened, as if the performer had supernatural powers.
However, this illusion of magic is created fully by natural means. The practitioners of this activity are called magicians or illusionists. The art of sleight of hand is based first on the readiness of the magical fingers to manipulate the equipment and accessories used in tricks.
The most famous illusions involve appearances and disappearances, transformations, couplings, mind reading, challenges to physical laws and logic, and everything that defies rational explanation.
History:
The illusionist tricks have been around since the beginning of time. However, the profession of illusionist gained prestige during the eighteenth century, and was going through various spets to become one of the most popular forms of entertainment.
The modern illusion owes much of its origins to Jean Eugène Robert-Houdin, watchmaker, who opened a magic theater in Paris in the 1840s.
One of the most famous practitioners of this art was Houdini "King of Trails", who died from a sudden attack of a boxer in disbelief about the physical endurance of the Magician, who claimed to be able to take a hard punch in the stomach and not feel pain. Houdini death days later.
And others like Doug Henning first, and then his student David Copperfield through TV shows, Broadway shows and world tours.
