BULLYING – A VIOLÊNCIA TOLERADA NA ESCOLA

RESUMO: Este trabalho tem por objetivo refletir sobre a problemática do bullying nas escolas. Esta expressão, de origem inglesa, define um tipo específico de violência que tem sido, de certa forma, tolerada pela comunidade escolar. Para demonstrar as conseqüências nocivas deste problema para a aprendizagem, especialmente para a aprendizagem de uma língua estrangeira, pretende-se analisar a resposta dos alunos das 2ªs séries do Ensino Médio do Colégio Wilson Joffre de Cascavel-Paraná, à intervenção realizada sobre o tema, durante as aulas de Inglês. Também através da leitura de estudos já anteriormente realizados acerca do assunto, enfocam-se as possíveis causas do fenômeno, que tanto afeta a auto-estima dos alunos, e apontam-se prováveis soluções.

ABSTRACT: This article intends to reflect about bullying in schools. Bullying, an English expression, defines a kind of violence that has been, in a certain way, tolerated by schools communities. To demonstrate the harmful consequences of this problem to the student’s learning, especially foreign language learning, this article analyses the response of 2nd year high school students from Wilson
Joffre High School, in Cascavel, Paraná, to the intervention about the issue, during English classes.
Through the reading of other studies about the problem, possible causes and solutions are showed, in order to avoid diminishing the student’s self-esteem.

INTRODUÇÃO
Qualquer pessoa que algum dia tenha freqüentado uma escola, certamente já presenciou o fenômeno bullying. Esta palavra, de origem inglesa, tem como raiz o termo bull, que significa ‘touro’, ou ainda, ‘valentão’.
Assim, o bullying pode ser definido como ‘o ato de bancar o valentão contra alguém’. Para os portugueses, ‘maus tratos entre pares’.
