Psychological Interventions on Crisis Situations at Intensive Care Unit. Case Reports

SUMMARY
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Psychological interventions on crisis situations have been considered as huge assistant on critical patients’ care and on their families at Intensive Care Units. Those interventions that are based on techniques of reducing anxiety, on a wide conceptual knowledge, take as prerequisites assistant handling centered on team, differential diagnosis, support psychological care, ambient handling, relax techniques and family interventions. Having the purpose of contributing to the development of psychological techniques of caring patients on crisis situations.
CASE REPORTS: Five clinical cases were selected and questions techniques related to intensive therapy context were discussed and to its benefits due to handling with critical patients. The bases of psycho-analytical understanding and the use of complementary and cognitive techniques base the intervention and make possible psychotherapeutic, psycho-educational and supportive actions.
CONCLUSIONS: The use of complementary techniques and sensitization of the recognition of the necessities in the context of the emotional inter-relations, related to the patient, the medical team and to the family, configures two other characteristics of the psychologist’ work. Psychological interventions at hospital both promote support and create favorable conditions on reestablishing patients and family that are founded at Intensive Care Unit.
