RESUMO – O objetivo deste estudo consiste em analisar a produção teórica e empírica do Serviço Social sobre o projeto ético político, referente às possibilidades e entraves encontrados para sua efetivação na prática profissional. Para tanto, foi realizada revisão de publicações científicas que abordavam essa temática no período entre 1999 e 2009, no banco de teses da CAPES, totalizando dezessete dissertações e cinco teses.
Foram encontradas divergências entre publicações teóricas e empíricas. Enquanto o primeiro tipo de publicação apresentou um acentuado otimismo quanto à efetividade do projeto, o segundo tipo apresentou forte ênfase nos obstáculos à sua efetivação, tanto pelas condições socioeconômicas desfavoráveis, quanto pelo processo de profissionalização do Serviço Social. Entretanto, ambos apontam convergências quando se trata da necessidade de refletir sobre um projeto viável e não um projeto idealizado.

ABSTRACT – The aim of this study is to examine the theoretical and empirical Social Work about the ethical and political project, referring to the possibilities and obstacles faced for its implementation in practice. To this end, we reviewed scientific publications that addressed this issue in the period between 1999 and 2009 in the CAPES theses database, totaling seventeen dissertations and five theses. Discrepancies were found between theoretical and empirical publications. While the first type of publication presented a strong optimism about the effectiveness of the project, the second type has a strong emphasis on obstacles to its realization, both by the unfavorable socioeconomic conditions, as the process of professionalization of social services.
