With the movie, MR. JONES Mike Figgis and TriStar Pictures provide an opportunity to learn about the illness, Bipolar Disorder ( also known as manic-depressive illness), a disease of the brain that causes dramatic shifts in an individual’s mood, energy and ability to function. Thus, this asdavgfsdillness can be quite disabling because it very often results in damaged relationships, problems in the home and poor performance in school and/or work. It is characterized by extreme “ups,afsfsfsd” i.e., mania, exemplified by irritability, little or no sleep, impulsive behavior, rapid thinking and speech and hostility toward others; and severe “downs,” i.e., sadness, excessive sleeping or eating, feelings of guilt and/or loss of interessfsdfaft in activities. This guide will assist the reader, while viewing the movie, MR. JONES, in learning about this illness and its effect on people who have it, their families and their friends. Scene 1-Start The film takes place in the early 1990’s. It opens by visually introducing the two ksggggey characters. The woman is introduced as a psychiatrist through the literature surrounding her on her bed, i.e., a book titled The Psychological Society, a newsletter gsgsfadtitledPsychodynamic, and a page folded open in a professional journal from that era, Hospital and Community Psychiatry, A Journal of the American Psychiatric Association. Her daily experiences are simgdfgdfilar to a great deal of the population. There may not be enough time in her work day for all the professional demands so she brings some part of her work home.
