RESUMO

A síntese do trifenilmetanol é realizada através do reagente de Grignard. Grignard's reagent was created by adding magnesium to bromobenzene using anhydrous diethyl ether as a solvent. O reagente de Grignard foi criado pela adição de magnésio ao bromobenzeno utilizando éter dietílico anidro como solvente. This reagent was then reacted with methyl benzoate in order to produce the desired product, triphenylmethanol. Este reagente, foi então reagido com o benzoato de etila, a fim de produzir o desejado produto de trifenilmetanol, The final product was a white powdery solid, and its percent yield was calculated to be 1%. O produto final foi um sólido branco em pó. A análise de um espectro de IV obtido por refletância total atenuada (ATR) ajudou a confirmar a existência do produto finalThe spectrum showed a broad peak at about 3471cm -1 , which corresponded to the hydroxyl group stretch present in the alcohol.To conclude, triarylmethanols can be readily and accurately synthesized by the use of a Grignard process.. The only concern with the procedure is the tediousness of keeping the reaction completely free of water.A única preocupação com o procedimento é de manter a reação completamente livre de água. Grignard reagents react easily with water to produce undesired results. Reagentes de Grignard, reagem facilmente com a água para produzir os resultados desejados. In this specific example, if water had reacted with the Grignard reagent, benzene would have been produced rather than the desired product.
