1.1 SANTO AGOSTINHO
Aurélio Agostinho destaca-se entre os Padres como Tomás de Aquino se destaca entre os Escolásticos. E como Tomás de Aquino se inspira na filosofia de Aristóteles, e será o maior vulto da filosofia metafísica cristã, Agostinho inspira-se em Platão, ou melhor, no neoplatonismo. Agostinho, pela profundidade do seu sentir e pelo seu gênio compreensivo, fundiu em si mesmo o caráter especulativo da patrística grega com o caráter prático da patrística latina, ainda que os problemas que fundamentalmente o preocupam sejam sempre os problemas práticos e morais: o mal, a liberdade, a graça, a predestinação.
