Óxido Nítrico, Endotélio e Processos Patológicos.

Nitric oxide is a gas, which mediates many phenomena, since the vasodilation mediated toxicity by macrophages.Nitric oxide is the product of a redox reaction of L-arginine catalyzed by NOS who can be constructive or induced. Endothelial cells playan important role in controlling vascular tone, vascular permeability, metabolism of endogenous and exogenous substances. The NOproduced by endothelial cells plays an important role in controlling vascular resistance and platelet aggregation therefore has significantcontrol of blood pressure and, in addition, NO is a potent inhibitor of platelet aggregation, thereby preventing thrombus formationand consequently, thrombosis. It is clear participation of NO in pathological events such as hypertension and thrombosis, but the mainargument is that NO has a biphasic role in platelet activation, although at low concentrations stimulates platelet activation, and highconcentrations, inhibits platelet activation.
