Most ERP vendors claim to offer a cloud ERP; however, the term isn't clearly defined and it's different from a software as a service ERP. ERP managers need to determine how "cloudy" the products being offered are by mapping them along several dimensions.

Selecting the cloud ERP option required by the organization is not as easy as it sounds, because it's not a binary decision. There is a continuum of cloud attributes from which to choose. Understanding what a vendor is offering when it uses the term "cloud" is a challenge. The choices can range from the hosting of an on-premises system, to private or public cloud networking, to multitenant or single-tenant software as a service (SaaS). Multitenant SaaS-ERP is not the right choice for every company.
