Brief history of paraty

During the colonial period in Brazil, Parati was the seat of the most important port for exporting gold. The city was designed taking into account the flow of the tides, as it is located almost at sea level. As a result, many of its streets are periodically flooded by the tide. Mainly because of its cultural center, Parati is one of the most sought after tourist cities in Brazil. People are especially attracted by the architecture. It is not permitted to use automobiles in the historic center.

Old Public Jail – now it houses the Department of Culture, Tourism and Sports of the city and the Institute of History and Art of Parati.

Chafariz do Pedreira - at the entrance to the city, made of marble, was inaugurated in 1853 by Luis Couto Ferraz Quarry, then president of the province of Rio de Janeiro, who drank in golden cup, its first waters.

FLIP

The International Literary Festival of Paraty (FLIP) is a literary festival launched in 2003 by the Association Blue House. It is held annually in Paraty and is one of the largest and most important literary festivals in the world. FLIP has the presence of national and foreign writers who participate in lectures and debates in historic buildings or in tents on the streets armed.
